1. Surprise!

    Friday, July 30, 2010

It’s been a while since I last posted! Wow, am I that busy, or just that lazy? Ah, I know, because I don’t know what to write about! So, probably for this post, I’d just rant about the things I have been doing for the past few days.

Since my last post, the only event/s that are worth writing about are the surprise birthday party for my Tita which was a real success, and of course the UAAP. First things first, my Tita turned 60 last July 20. She already had a celebration then, we ate at Huey Ying at the back of MOA (Seaside). But what she didn’t know was that we were quietly preparing for her party which was held last July 24, which happened to be the first Ateneo-Lasalle match for UAAP Season 73, and which Lasalle won eventually.

Okay, back to the birthday, so everything was almost set, there were just some finishing touches here and there, and all we had to do best was to keep quiet and pray that no one mentions the party to the celebrant. We were all so nervous when the much-awaited day was approaching, and fortunately, we were able to pull off the surprise. Of course she was surprised, you could see it in her face, she was so happy, and everyone was so happy to celebrate with her. We prepared an AVP for her, and relatives from the US even sent video messages for her. My dad who is in Qatar and one of my uncles who is abroad as well called her and she had those live phone patches. She was such a celebrity that night! And of course, the food was great, we were all happy, and it was such a great accomplishment, especially for the mastermind of it all, my cousin Ate Libay. :)

Next topic, the UAAP; you might find a lot of posts from now on about the UAAP because once again, the basketball fan in me is creeping up, and yes, it’s back. We have been watching UST’s games on weekends since their first game against UE, in which they won. (Now I’m really seeing the perks of having and handling your own money. I get to have money for game tickets! And for my fare as well.) They lost to Ateneo in their next game, but after that, they bounced back and won against UP, which I thought they were to lose, but thanks to the overtime, and to their 3-pt. shooting of course!

Then, they lost to Adamson last Sunday even though their shooting was just as sweet as how it was against UP. I personally think they could've won that game if not for the turnovers. It was such a close game! Now, they've won once again, against NU yesterday. The game against NU was more of UST just got luckier than NU, because the Tigers’ game wasn't really on but they still managed to grab that win. They just didn't give up. Never say die.

After all these games, I’m starting to think that yeah, there might be something at Ultra which keeps them from winning. They've won all their games in Araneta, hopefully that continues, but they have to win yet a single game at Ultra. It would be great to achieve that this coming Sunday against the Green Archers. Though we know that the Archers are a tough team to beat for sure, still I believe that the Tigers could get away with a win. They've been surprising basketball critics and I’m sure there’s still a lot more surprises in store for us.

The players could be lacking in experience and maturity, but I believe that with Coach Pido guiding them, they would have enough. I’m hoping for at least a Final Four finish for the Tigers, it would definitely boost their confidence if that happens, and would help come the next season. And what do we know, they might just pull off a big surprise once again. As what they always say, it’s just a matter of who really wants to win it, who gives up first, and who has the bigger heart for it. Go USTe! :)

    P.S.
I recommend watching Coach Pido’s post game interviews during their wins. He’s so funny, and never fails to entertain the media with his funny antics. Ibang klase, the best ka Coach Pido! :))

    P.P.S.
Just to share, I really like Clark Bautista, I so love the way he hits those three's! Haha! But of course, I also love Jeric Teng, Jeric Fortuna, and Chris Camus. Camus has definitely improved his game! :) Go Tigers!! :) (I never thought my 'addiction' to the UAAP would come back. Well, I guess once a fan, always a fan! :)) )
