I did not fully understand what the theme was but from what I heard from Ryan Seacrest, they chose songs from 2010 up to now. That's a loooooooooot of songs to choose from. They also got Akon as this week's mentor. Okay, on to the show.
First up was Skylar Laine with the song Didn't You Know How Much I Loved You by Kellie Pickler. At the beginning of the season I really didn't notice Skylar, she was at the bottom of my list. Then as the performances went on, I thought okay, she's pretty good. But she's still at the bottom of my list. Maybe I just don't want another country singer to win. :) As for her performance tonight, well what would you expect with a country singer singing a country song? Great of course? :)) And her duet with Colton, great as well. I also think she might kinda like Colton, haha! She was really good tonight.
Next was Colton Dixon with the song Love the Way You Lie. Oh, Colton. From the first moment he sang, I already loved him. He's one of my favorite boys, and he always delivers. He may not always be awesome every night but his performances are still good. As for tonight, it wasn't a wow-oh-my-god moment for me but I loved his performance. I love it whenever he's using the piano and then gives the audience that stare. It's like it goes through my soul or something. And as I've mentioned, his duet with Skylar with the song Don't You Wanna Stay by Jason Aldean and Kelly Clarkson was great.
Then it's time for Jessica Sanchez's version of Jazmine Sullivan's Stuttering. Everyone who's watched this season's American Idol knows how awesome this girl can sing. Her poise and her control with her voice, her professionalism, it's crazy; she's only 16! Even if she doesn't win I think she will be able to sell a lot of records. But I hope she does win, or at least make it to the top 2, or win. =)) Of course her performance tonight was another stunner. Although I think her best ones are still her first performance with the song I Love You I Do, and her Whitney Houston moment. She's always good. And I think she needs to deliver always since it feels like the judges always expect a lot from her. She needs another moment and I feel it's coming real soon.
Following Jessica is Joshua Ledet with Bruno Mars' Runaway Baby. Like Jessica, Joshua can really sing. His high notes are insane and he's like a soprano version of Jacob Lusk because I think their singing styles are almost the same. I think he's good but he's at the lower half of my list. I think his performance tonight was just okay for me, I'm not a real fan of the kind of voice he has and the kind of performance he did, although the judges gave him another standing ovation. Some are saying that they're praising him too much, might be a bit biased? I don't know. As far as I'm concerned, he's good but he's just okay for me.
Hollie Cavanagh sang Pink's song Perfect. When you see Hollie and then you hear her sing, you'd be surprised. She's (just like Jessica) this little girl with that really big voice. She was doing good at the first part of the season but I think she's slowly losing it. The judges were right when they said that her performance tonight was better than her performance last week. It was a huge improvement, and she needed it so bad. The question is, was it too late? Hollie, Joshua and Jessica also had their trio version of Kelly Clarkson's Stronger which I thought was great as well. But Jessica and Joshua kind of overpowered Hollie a bit.
Next up was Phillip Phillips with the song Give A Little More by Maroon 5. This is my other favorite guy. The way he sings is so unique, his voice is so unique that he's always like a fresh breath of air everytime he performs. And his energy will really flow into you while his performing. The judges didn't love his performance tonight so much but he was still good. I think it was just lacking the energy that we usually see from him. He's still great. And if he goes home just because of this performance, that's just not right.
Elise Testone was the last to perform with her rendition of Lady Gaga's You and I. At first I didn't get Elise, but I realized with the right performances, the right song choices, she's actually pretty good too. She's got a unique raspy voice which could work to her advantage, kind of like Haley from Season 10. The judges say that Elise is back tonight but I think it was just an okay performance. Her duet with Phillip however, I think the judges were kinda right that she got the edge over Phil there. Well, considering the fact that it wasn't Phil's genre. But they still did awesome.
So ranking them up, based on how I liked their performances, here's what I got.
- Jessica Sanchez
- Colton Dixon
- Phillip Phillips
- Skylar Laine
- Joshua Ledet
- Elise Testone
- Hollie Cavanagh
There's my bottom three, and I think Hollie might go home. I am definitely rooting for that top three; Jessica, Colton, and Phil. We'll have to wait and see who goes home tomorrow!
