My blog was actually featured on Yahoo! College hoops! Yes, this actual blog! Don’t want to believe me? Click here then!

I’m just very happy that they took time to recognize my support for the UST Growling Tigers and my blog. Though still, my dreams, hopes of a lot of comments in my posts still weren’t achieved, at least my blog got some exposure. As well as the author, haha! My friends were very happy for me, as much as I was very surprised when I saw the article. Yahoo! College Hoops for the win!

Anyway, back to business. The 2010 UAAP Cheerdance Competition was held at the Araneta Coliseum last September 12, 2010. I wasn’t able to watch live because it's just too hard to get those tickets, so I just settled for the pep rally last Thursday at the UST gym to see the Salinggawi Dance Troupe perform their routine live, (of course, go USTe!) and then I watched the whole competition on Studio 23 to see the other squads perform, and to know who's going home with the win of course. The cheerdance competition has always been much awaited by students, alumni, fans, and the like, whenever the UAAP season starts. Even those who aren’t from the eight UAAP member schools await this annual event where we see the different pep squads take center stage. People have different bets, but the top 3 are usually UP, FEU, and UST. They have been the ‘big three’ in the UAAP Cheerdance Competition I think ever since the competition started in 1994. These three schools have always taken 1st, 2nd, and 3rd interchangeably in the previous years, but other schools have actually managed to get into the top three spots too before. DLSU was 2nd in 1994, ’95, ’98, and 3rd in ’96. Adamson was second in 2001, while UE took that spot from Adamson in 2002. Ateneo finished a surprising 2nd place in 2009, while the rest has been all UP, FEU, and UST.

The dominance of these three squads was once again seen as the UST Salinggawi Dance Troupe finished 3rd place yesterday, improving from their 4th place finish in 2009, with a White Tiger-inspired routine. The FEU Cheering Squad failed to defend their title with their Samurai-inspired routine, but still gave an amazing performance that earned them the 2nd place finish behind the UP Pep Squad who took home the most coveted 1st place finish as they were declared champions with their Fiesta-inspired routine in front of a 21,000-strong crowd at the Araneta Coliseum. The Ateneo Blue Babble Battalion finished fourth, followed by the DLSU Animo Squad, UE Pep Squad, NU Pep Squad, and the Adamson Pep Squad.

Balloons, banners, cheers and screams from the crowd filled the whole Araneta Coliseum during the Cheerdance Competition, but nothing beats the energy and the school spirit of these squads, backed by their respective communities. Sportsmanship is also at its best as you see students, fans, cheering for other schools. They have all represented their respective schools well, but only one can take home the grand prize. Congratulations to all teams! Congratulations UP, FEU, and UST! 'Til next UAAP Cheerdance Competition! :)

    P.S.
I love how the whole Thomasian community always comes out strong to support our very own Salinggawi Dance Troupe; and they never disappoint us in return, right? In my opinion, they were the best crowd out there. If you were there last Sunday, lucky you! I loved how loud the cheers were during the performance, especially the last part, Viva Santo Tomas! We should be able to do the same for the Growling Tigers too! :) (Well, at least for the next UAAP seasons. =P) And for the rest of the Tiger athletes! Go USTe! :)
