What a way to end an era. Oh but wait, it does not really end now, does it? Well at least not for us Potterheads. And I have nothing but praises for this movie.
Finally I was able to watch Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2, wearing my DLM Hallows shirt, in IMAX. I made sure that I wasn't just going to watch it at some regular cinema even if it's in 3D. Watching it in IMAX is just a different experience.
You know that feeling you get when you just want to cuddle up to something or hug something so tightly because you're so full of emotions? I felt like that right from the beginning of the movie up ‘til the end. I wanted to hold on to my mom's arm or my bag but it would just be too awkward, so I just focused on the movie. For me, everything the movie offered was just right on target. It's got the right amount of everything. David Yates did a pretty damn good job on this one. Even my mom, who really didn't get to watch all the Harry Potter movies, appreciated the movie a lot.
SPOILER ALERT AFTER THE JUMP. IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THE BOOK OR WATCHED THE MOVIE YET, YOU ARE WELCOME TO COME BACK ANYTIME. =D
After I've finished reading the book, and seeing this movie, I now look at Snape very differently. I think most of you would agree that this movie has shown us a different side of Snape. Yes he's still the mean Potions master, but what lies beneath it is just something so extraordinary. It's like now I could see in him the difficulties he had to go through, following Voldemort's orders while staying loyal as ever to Dumbledore. It's as if I could see him struggling with his words at the start of the movie when he knew about Potter being back in Hogwarts but he still has to do it because it's what's supposed to happen. God, I have so much respect now for Severus Snape. And yes, I did cry on almost all of his scenes. His death and while he was talking to Harry, and most of all the way he held Lily while he was crying. His love for Lily is so beautiful, and he is a very brave man indeed.
Ah, Professor McGonagall. I've always loved her in the past movies, and have adored her more in this movie. She's so brave, and yet so vulnerable, but is a great leader too. I like that moment when she said "I've always wanted to use that spell." They knew when to be serious, and when to have a light moment. Goodness, David Yates is wonderful. I was so excited for Molly Weasley’s and Bellatrix Lestrange's duel too. It was so great seeing Molly in that form when we always just see her caring for her kids, her husband, the Order, Harry, and everyone else. And then to see her in action like that and saying "Not my daughter you bitch!", and even winning the duel, oh wow, I think she's earned everyone's respect after that, and Harry better be careful with Ginny. It was about time the others got some spotlight too. Neville’s killing of Nagini and being so courageous during the battle, and Luna’s “Harry Potter you listen to me right now!”, priceless. And one more thing, Aberforth’s patronus was so powerful and grand. Amazing.
There was also that scene at the Great Hall after Voldemort and his followers attacked. That was so heartbreaking and yes, I did cry, again. When I saw Ron lose it when he saw Fred, and then Lupin and Tonks were just lying there, I just lost it too. A lot of others close to Harry have sacrificed their lives as well. Death Eaters are heartless.
And of course, the kiss everyone's been dying to see. Ron and Hermione nailed it! Hahaha! I loved their kissing scene, and then when they laughed/smiled after kissing each other, they were just so endearing. They beat Harry and Ginny in that area so much. I love the scenes when things started to kind of switch between Ron and Hermione where Ron's the one who's got the brilliant ideas and Hermione's the one who says "Brilliant!" most of the time. They're perfect for each other. From what I can see, Emma Watson's a good kisser. =))
This post wouldn't be complete without talking about the trio: Harry, Ron, and Hermione. Their friendship is just something that I think everyone's dying to have. They've always been there for each other, until the very end. They don't always agree with their decisions, but they support each other all the way. That's true friendship right there. I can't imagine Harry without Ron and Hermione, or Ron without Harry and Hermione, or Hermione without Ron and Harry. They may not always be physically together but the bond that they've created is like the unbreakable vow and only death could separate them; yes it's like marriage. The way Hermione and Ron helped Harry with the horcruxes, that they've risked their lives for him, how many friends would be so willing to do that? And Harry's love for the both of them that he would risk being alone than getting them into trouble is pure unselfishness. All their scenes in this movie showed how great their friendship is, but I especially loved the one where Harry was about to go the Forbidden Forest. I want to give them all a hug, if only I could.
Now about the kids in this movie before anything else. First, baby Harry. He is super duper gorgeous. I wanted to hug him while he was at that crib. He was so helpless and he didn't understand at all what was going on around him. So innocent, and yet so brave. I wish he was my younger brother. And then there were Albus Severus, James Sirius, and Lily Luna of the Potters, and Rose and Hugo Weasley. Everyone's raving about Albus Severus, probably because he's the most gorgeous of the bunch? =P
Seeing the trio, and Ginny, and Draco, as parents is like saying “This is really it. This is the end, it’s a different story now.” It's like dejavu being at Platform 9 3/4, only that they're playing a different role. Harry looked handsome as a Dad, Ginny was so Mommy-esque, Ron looked dashing as well, and Hermione, still as beautiful as ever. It was a pretty good scene. And if you expected it, you are right, I did cry.
Harry. Ron. Hermione. The Boy Who Lived. The Brightest Wizard of her Age. The King. Bloody hell, they're just brilliant. And by that I mean the characters, and the actors who played them as well.
It is a good closure, this movie. But when it struck me that “Oh god there’s no Harry Potter movie to look forward to next year,” I just didn’t want to leave the theatre anymore. I want to watch it as many times as I possibly could. It might take a while to really sink in that there’s no next Harry Potter movie after this. Have I mentioned how great David Yates is? He’s one hell of a movie director. As for the Queen? J.K. Rowling has done an amazingly fantastic and outstanding job. Without her, none of us would have ever known that there was a half-giant called Hagrid, a Hogwarts Headmaster as wise as the so-called Albus Dumbledore, an evil nemesis as wicked as He Who Must Not Be Named, an unbelievably loving and loyal follower named Snape, a ginger boy who could be as awesome as Ron Weasley, a brilliant wizard in the very beautiful Hermione Granger, and a boy (in spectacles) who lived named Harry Potter. She has given our childhood something so special that only someone as great as she is could have done. And with that, a huge THANK YOU to you, Ms. Joanne Kathleen Rowling.
Hail to the Queen.
P.S.
I need that Harry Potter book set. And yes it's sulit to watch in IMAX, and better watch it in 3D than regular lang. And I feel like there’s still something missing with this post even if it’s already so long, hahaha. I just want to say everything that I’m feeling, and I think I’ve done enough, since I don’t feel so troubled, or torn, or whatever inside anymore. =D Let's watch again, c'mon. Harry Potter!!!!!
