WARNING: This post is by a Thomasian, so it's just school pride at its best. =D
Celebrating a sesquicentennial is really big.
But celebrating a Quadricentennial...now that is AMAZING.
Being the oldest university in Asia, the University of Santo Tomas has made a name for itself not just in the Philippines but in other parts of the world as well. And being part of this institution, I am really proud to have been able to witness the Quadricentennial celebration of my beloved university.
I may have only spent 4 years within the walls of UST, but it's enough to make me a true Thomasian, heart and soul. (Not that I've forgotten that I am, too, a Josephian. =D) My friends would know how much of a real Tiger I am, from the inter-collegiate intramurals within the university's different colleges, up to the UAAP games, and now during the Quadricentennial celebration. I may have flooded twitter with too many #UST400 tweets these past few days for them to be able to know that I am a very proud Thomasian, and that our university is celebrating it's 400th year of existence.
As much as I wanted to attend all of the university's activities, I couldn't because aside from the fact that I am not a student anymore, have to follow work schedule too of course.
So this was how we celebrated with our fellow Thomasians...
From the launching of the countdown to the Quadricentennial celebration during Paskuhan 2009.
Up to the Q Grand Program last January 27, the countdown party to UST's 400th year! There were a lot of artists including Sarah Geronimo, Gary V., Albert Martinez, John Lapus, Itchyworms, Jamie Rivera, etc. The pyromusical display after the program was super AWESOME! Though it wasn't that long. Goosebumps all over!
The Quattromondial monument which represents UST's 400 years and the Swatch counter to 400 years. Piolo Pascual and Charlene Gonzales were 2 of the four models for this monument. Fr. dela Rosa if I'm not mistaken is the other one, and the other is the artist's daughter.
Celebrated with Joyce, Philip, Tolitz, and Casey! Other classmates were there but because of the crowd, we weren't able to see each other anymore. Just like Paskuhan!
This was very cool, they had all the colleges' logos at the lover's lane. Pretty nice! Go eng'g.!
I was able to attend the mass to last January 28 though I was late. It was a very beautiful celebration, especially when the candles were lighted, and the UST hymn was sung, it was like a baccalaureate mass, haha. Then the Pope gave a message and a blessing, really nice. Go USTe!
Then there was the Grand Alumni Homecoming after. We didn't attend because the tickets were too expensive. There was also a super awesome fireworks afterwards which I was only able to witness through a video. There was also the Quadri fiesta where students were treated to free food, just bring your own plate and utensils.
My heart is beaming with joy, and seeing everyone greet the school a "happy 400th year" or "happy quadricentennial" or "congratulations UST", you will really be proud of your school.
It was a very successful and very fun celebration all in all, wouldn't have missed it for the world, and I would love a repeat anytime! I may not be a student anymore but I definitely felt the Quadricentennial week celebration capped off by the programs during the 27th and 28th. Like what (I think it was Fr. dela Rosa) they said, if you missed the celebrations, you missed half of your life.
I made the right choice. I am a very proud Thomasian. I love my school, I love my university, I love UST!
Cheers to more years of excellence UST!
Go Tigers! Go USTe!
P.S.
I still need my "Quadricentennial shirt." =)) There was just too many people at the souvenirs' booth, we weren't even able to get in.
