1. Family Satur-date

    Sunday, January 16, 2011

For many, Sunday is usually their family day. For us, it has to be any time of the week, as long as we’re together sharing nice stories with good food.

January 15, 2011 marked one of my Lola’s 83rd birthday. She is one of my mom’s aunts, and we are very close to her as well. She is the one who always cooks good food for us whenever we have family gatherings at their place. But that has now changed.

She is battling with the big C (lungs). She has had it for quite some time now, and she’s not taking medications anymore. She has done chemotherapy before, but has now refused the oral chemotherapy. We, as a family, have accepted whatever decision she’s made. All we could do is pray for her, care for her, and make her happy while she’s still with us; thus, the birthday party; and just let her do the things that she wants to do her way.

    Angry Birds time!

JJ,Dei,Ella (Dei is supposed to be JJ and Ella's niece =P)

We all brought the food, or had it delivered to not place the burden on my uncle’s shoulders anymore of all the preparation and cooking that they had to do. As long as there’s food anyway, we’re good to go, even if it’s leftover adobo, or a small box of cassava cake, or a pack of pastillas. We could see that she was happy to see us to celebrate her birthday with her, and we felt exactly the same way too. Of course, there were stories here and there, kids were playing all around the place, and there’s always good food on the table. It was a fun way to start the weekend.

Then after lunch, we went to Marikina before dropping off my aunt at their place in Antipolo. There was this shoes and bags expo where it had really cheaper prices, and a pretty good wide variety of selections. I was able to buy a pair of flats and a pair of slippers, but didn’t go with the bag I saw because I didn’t really feel it. I was happy with my purchases anyway. Then we went to OLA to hear mass, and ate at Shakey’s (Blue Wave) for dinner as per our little cousin’s request.

Then there was this store beside Shakey’s called Tops or The Off-Price Store, where you could buy branded clothes for discounted prices. They had pretty good deals, and they had a lot of different kinds of clothes. At first I wasn’t able to see something that I liked, but after looking through the dresses I saw this little black dress. I really liked it at once, and after fitting it, I bought it. I now have my very own little black dress! Hahaha.

So I went home very happy with the bonding I had with my family, with all the good food, the laughter, and the purchases I made. Even though it was also a bit splurge-y, it was a very fun Satur-date indeed.

P.S. You’ll never get hungry if you’re with the Lucas family. Just an observation. :P
