1. Cheers to 400 years!

    Sunday, January 30, 2011

WARNING: This post is by a Thomasian, so it's just school pride at its best. =D

Having a centennial celebration is something.

Celebrating a sesquicentennial is really big.

But celebrating a Quadricentennial...now that is AMAZING.

Being the oldest university in Asia, the University of Santo Tomas has made a name for itself not just in the Philippines but in other parts of the world as well. And being part of this institution, I am really proud to have been able to witness the Quadricentennial celebration of my beloved university.

I may have only spent 4 years within the walls of UST, but it's enough to make me a true Thomasian, heart and soul. (Not that I've forgotten that I am, too, a Josephian. =D) My friends would know how much of a real Tiger I am, from the inter-collegiate intramurals within the university's different colleges, up to the UAAP games, and now during the Quadricentennial celebration. I may have flooded twitter with too many #UST400 tweets these past few days for them to be able to know that I am a very proud Thomasian, and that our university is celebrating it's 400th year of existence.

As much as I wanted to attend all of the university's activities, I couldn't because aside from the fact that I am not a student anymore, have to follow work schedule too of course.

So this was how we celebrated with our fellow Thomasians...

  2. Red Horse Beer's Muziklaban was held last January 22, 2011 at the open field along Roxas Blvd. corner EDSA ext. just across Toyota Manila Bay. This event which features amateur rock bands is held yearly and also involves a lot of activities for one whole day. This year's Muziklaban included tattoo competitions/exhibitions, deck art (skateboard) competition, indie film making competition, and of course the main event where the grand champion will be determined. The Muziklaban this year was also a tribute to a Pinoy Icon, the King of Pinoy Rap, Francis M.

I don't usually go to these kind of events because it's a bit too much rock for me, and the crowd is not really my type of crowd. When our uncle asked if we wanted to go though, Kuya and I immediately said yes even if the passes weren't sure yet. Because I knew that we would be getting good passes, just like last time when we went to the 2009 NU Rock Awards. The last time my uncle went to the Muziklaban event, they got VIP passes, so we were thinking what passes we would get since the entrance for this year is free.

And this is how we got in...

  3. Soul Food

    Monday, January 24, 2011

I have this Bo Sanchez Soulfood Newsletter that I receive in my email frequently. I think it was my mom who got me into it. I'm not sure if it's weekly or monthly, but what I'm sure of is that I don't really read them, thinking that they're too serious. I just open the message, browse through it, and sometimes even delete it, or just simply ignore it. But this time, I actually cared to read one because I was intrigued by what's written on the subject: Warning: If You Don't Design Your Future, Someone Else Will

It turned out to be a really nice article. Not that serious really, and it made me remember the life stories that was at the back of the Kerygma magazines we used to get at school which had some really good stories. The short article made a whole lot of sense, though I'm sure only those who are or will be committed to it could actually do it. Below is the actual content of the email.

  4. Family Satur-date

    Sunday, January 16, 2011

For many, Sunday is usually their family day. For us, it has to be any time of the week, as long as we’re together sharing nice stories with good food.

January 15, 2011 marked one of my Lola’s 83rd birthday. She is one of my mom’s aunts, and we are very close to her as well. She is the one who always cooks good food for us whenever we have family gatherings at their place. But that has now changed.

She is battling with the big C (lungs). She has had it for quite some time now, and she’s not taking medications anymore. She has done chemotherapy before, but has now refused the oral chemotherapy. We, as a family, have accepted whatever decision she’s made. All we could do is pray for her, care for her, and make her happy while she’s still with us; thus, the birthday party; and just let her do the things that she wants to do her way.

    Angry Birds time!

  5. Rumors, Decisions, Basketball

    Thursday, January 13, 2011

Just because I’ve missed writing about basketball. And I've been reading all these news about it.

I could actually write about the on-going PBA Philippine Cup but I don’t follow it as faithfully as the UAAP to give justice to whatever it is that I might write; so I’m sticking with college basketball.

2011 has opened up to some surprising news about college basketball. A lot of decisions are awaited and are being made, which makes spectators (including me of course!) more excited for the next UAAP basketball season even if the current UAAP season is not yet done. Since there are only more or less three months before high school seniors receive their diplomas, college basketball fans are looking forward to hearing where a number of high school standouts, be it in the UAAP or NCAA, are headed.

  6. Productivity is the key!

    Thursday, January 6, 2011

2011 has started, and everyone’s saying that this is going to be their year, it is time for a ‘new me’, and they generally just want to create and start something new in their lives. I believe it has always been that way every New Year, and there’s nothing totally wrong with it. It is actually a very positive outlook that we always want to try and be spanking new whenever a new year starts. It hinders idleness and gives us more room for growth.

This is where New Year’s resolutions come into view. We think about things that we want to change or we want to improve on, and list them, and hopefully be able to follow them faithfully as the year goes by. I honestly cannot follow my own new year’s resolutions faithfully if ever I create one. Probably that’s why I haven’t created one yet for this year. But, even though I don’t have my resolutions listed yet, I have been quite productive already, or so that’s what I think.

I have been able to actually cross off things in my ‘to do list’ for the day. Last Monday, I had things in mind that I needed to buy, and I actually was able to buy if not all, a majority of those things. Including this little notebook, bookmark, and pens that I bought for myself.

  7. *No, I am not singing ala-Troy/Gabriella. :))*

I am back blogger world! I am officially blogging in to the year 2011. Hooray! How has it been for you guys? We’re already in the 6th day of 2011, will you look at that. Have you started with your new year’s resolutions yet? I haven’t even listed mine.

Anyway, if you’ve noticed, I’ve changed my blog’s design. New blog for the New Year, well, not literally new but at least I’ve given it some makeover, right? I’m still not 100% satisfied with it though. Help me, what do you think of the new design? Comments and suggestions are very much welcome! :)

As this is my first ever post for 2011, let me share with you some pictures from our holiday celebrations!

Christmas eve with my mom and kuya; my uncle who lives alone in at the house in Pasay; my tito, tita, and cousin next door; my other cousin and her family who lives a street away from us; and my uncle and cousin who came over all the way from the States to spend their holidays with us! Food, pictures, laughter, and pure fun!
